Andrea Boyd, ESA Flight Controller for ISS

Andrea Boyd is an ISS Flight Controller stationed at the European Astronaut Centre.

A Mechatronic Engineer from The University of Adelaide, Australia, she specialised in robotics at Yeungnam University, South Korea, working after graduation as an Automation Engineer for many industries prior to certification as a process plant and underground Mining Control Systems Specialist, located on site in the remote desert.

Andrea certified as an ISS Flight Operations Engineer for payload control and cross-certified in later years for crew operations, serving in the European Space Agency's Human Spaceflight and Operations Directorate. She has lived, worked and studied in over 65 nations, cooperates with IAC2017 Adelaide and is on the 2015 Australian of the Year Honour Roll for her volunteer work at schools, universities and NGOs, inspiring young people to pursue ambitious careers.

NASA, Orbital ATK and United Launch Alliance (ULA) are now targeting April 18 for the launch of Orbital ATK's seventh contracted commercial resupply services mission to the International Space Station. ULA has developed a plan to resolve an earlier booster hydraulic issue, and is moving forward with launch vehicle processing. Both the Atlas V rocket and Cygnus spacecraft remain secure. Several tons of cargo including crew supplies and science experiments packed aboard Cygnus remain in good shape.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — United Launch Alliance (ULA) is now targeting April 18, 2017, for the launch of an Atlas V rocket with a Cygnus cargo spacecraft bound for the International Space Station (ISS).

Launching from Space Launch Complex 40, The Atlas V 401 rocket (4-meter fairing, zero solid rocket boosters and a single-engine upper stage) is slated to take to the skies at 5:30 p.m. EDT (21:30 GMT), the opening of a 30-minute launch window. The flight was delayed multiple times in March 2017 for multiple reasons. The latest was due to a hydraulic line issue on the booster itself.

"The team has developed a plan to resolve the issue and is moving forward with launch vehicle processing," an April 3 statement by ULA reads. "The Atlas V and Cygnus spacecraft remain secure."

The Orbital Atk OA-7 Cygnus spacecraft is named S.S. John Glenn after the Mercury 7 astronaut. It will be delivering about 7,452 pounds (3,380 kilograms) of internal cargo and a 183-pound (83-kilogram) external CubeSat deployer.

It will be the seventh Cygnus flight to the space station, and the third atop an Atlas V rocket. Previously, the OA-4 and OA-6 missions flew atop ULA's workhorse rocket in December 2015 and March 2016, respectively. This was because the Antares rocket that traditionally launches Cygnus spacecraft was undergoing upgrades following the October 2014 Orb-3 launch failure.

OA-5 launched atop an upgraded Antares 230 rocket in October 2016. According to NASA Spaceflight, the reason for the switch to an Atlas V for OA-7 had to do with getting more cargo (about 700 pounds or 300 kilograms more) to the ISS and giving NASA more schedule assurance.

Flights after OA-7, starting with OA-8E, will return to using Antares rockets launched from Wallops Island, Virginia.

НЬЮ-ЙОРК, 4 апреля. /Корр. ТАСС Алексей Качалин/. Старт ракеты-носителя Atlas V американского консорциума United Launch Alliance (ULA) с грузовым кораблем Cygnus к Международной космической станции (МКС) запланирован на 18 апреля. Об этом консорциум объявил в понедельник.
"Запуск ракеты Atlas V с кораблем Cygnus компании Orbital ATK намечен на 18 апреля", - отметила компания.
До этого пуск Atlas V неоднократно переносился. Первоначально причиной этого стали "проблемы с гидравликой разгонного блока" ракеты, которые были выявлены во время подготовки к полету. "Помимо этого, была обнаружена другая проблема с линией гидравлической подачи разгонного блока. Группа специалистов разработала план устранения неисправности и продвигается вперед в процессе подготовки корабля (к запуску)", - уточнили в ULA.
Компания заверила, что Atlas V и Cygnus "находятся в целости и безопасности". Запуск будет проведен со стартового комплекса 41 базы ВВС США на мысе Канаверал (штат Флорида). Для предстоящего рейса космического грузовика к МКС NASA осознанно выбрало Atlas V вместо носителя Antares-230 производства конкурирующей компании Orbital ATK. В космическом ведомстве мотивировали данный шаг большей грузоподъемностью и надежностью Atlas V.
Помимо запасов воды, продовольствия и приборов, Cygnus доставит на орбитальный комплекс экспериментальный мини-спутник IceCube, разработанный специалистами Центра космических полетов им. Годдарда в Гринбелте (штат Мэриленд). Вахту на МКС несут американцы Роберт Шейн Кимброу и Пегги Уитсон, россияне Андрей Борисенко, Сергей Рыжиков и Олег Новицкий, а также француз Тома Песке, представляющий Европейское космическое агентство.

Если я неправ, то пусть меня поправят.

Я думаю, это связано с особенностями предстартовой циклограммы у тех и у других. У Атласа есть hold на -4 минутах. Если в последние моменты что-то происходит и отсчёт останавливается, можно откатиться на эти -4 минуты и с них возобновить остчёт. У Сокола откат назад происходит на гораздо большее время и им не хватает окна на ещё одну попытку.

Как я понимаю, на орбиту МКС можно пускать как в сторону полюса, так и в сторону экватора.
А у спейсов баржа ждёт только на одной траектории.
