|The STSAT-2 (Science and Technology Satellite-2) 2008-01-28|
The STSAT-2 (Science and Technology Satellite-2) is a 100 kg class Micro Satellite based on the National Space Program following the STSAT-1 which was launched in 2003. STSAT-1 was developed from technologies based on the KITSAT-1, 2 and 3 which were previous Korean micro-satellites successfully operated in orbit. The STSAT-1 was the first satellite for a space science mission in Korea. The STSAT-1 project was started in October 1998 and was successfully launched on 27 September 2003.
The payloads of the STSAT-1 were FIMS(Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph) and SPP(Space Physics Package) for observing space. The objectives of the STSAT-2 program are the domestic development of a low earth orbit 100 kg class satellite which will be launched on KSLV-I(Korea Space Launch Vehicle-I) from the domestic space center and technology development for small spacecraft that will be applied to advance studies of core satellite technology. The STSAT-2 payloads are DREAM (Dual-channel Radiometers for Earth & Atmosphere Monitoring) which measures the brightness temperature of earth, and LRA (Laser Retro-reflector Array) to measure the precise distance between a ground station and the STSAT-2.
