The LEE is attached to the SSRMS wrist joint via six Expandable Diameter Fasteners (EDFs) that will be released by the spacewalkers using the Pistol Grip Tool. EDFs are used in the high-load interfaces on the arm & its grapple fixtures.

Astronauts Randy Bresnik and Mark Vande Hei headed outside the International Space Station Thursday on a spacewalk to replace one end of the lab’s Canadian-built robotic arm, a changeout that engineers say will restore the device to full capability.

The spacewalking duo is set to exit the station’s Quest airlock shortly after 8:05 a.m. EDT (1205 GMT) Thursday for an excursion expected to last around six-and-a-half hours.

Both spacewalkers are outside, going through the usual tether config and suit checks before making their way to the P1 work site where they'll meet up with Canadarm2.
