The static fire of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket at pad 39A is expected at 6 p.m. EDT (2200 GMT) today. SpaceX has an eight-hour test window that extends from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT (1600-0000 GMT) to fire up the Falcon 9's nine Merlin 1D main engines for a hold-down test.

Vapors venting from the Falcon 9 rocket at launch pad 39A suggest fueling preparations are underway ahead of a hold-down firing of SpaceX's upgraded booster today.

A time for the static fire test has not been confirmed. The brief hold-down firing was expected at 6 p.m. EDT (2200 GMT), but the ignition is now expected shortly after the earlier target time.

No venting is currently visible at pad 39A, after vapors from the Falcon 9's cryogenic fueling system appeared intermittently over the last hour. There's no update on when SpaceX might be targeting the static fire test, but today's test window runs until 8 p.m. EDT (0000 GMT).

The strongback has retracted to an angle a couple of degrees from the Falcon 9 rocket in preparation for ignition. This is one of the final steps before the static fire.
