:)

SES: working toward Thursday launch, but don't be surprised if it slips a day due to pad time needed for spacecraft testing.

SES CTO Martin Halliwell talks about SES10 and the launch on flightproven rocket!

Две ключевые цитаты из выступления на брифинге:
Цитировать- They are running right up on the timeline to make the 30th because once the Falcon 9 and integrated payload are vertical at 39A, they need 13 hours to check out the spacecraft. Might be a slip to 3–31.

- The launch window was shortened to 1800 – 2030 EDT not because of the vehicle or SpaceX, but because the FAA didn't want to close down airspace for a 4hr launch window.

Кстати. Поясните плз: зачем нужен Boostback burn? Entry burn - это, как я понимаю, чтобы ступень не повредилась в плотных слоях атмосферы, притормаживает перед входом. А Boostback burn?

The Falcon 9 rocket was rotated back horizontal this morning to return to the hangar for attachment with the SES 10 communications satellite ahead of Thursday evening's launch attempt.

03/28/2017 21:51
Engineers are still aiming for launch of a Falcon 9 rocket Thursday evening, but the timeline is tight to complete mission preps in time, according to Martin Halliwell, the chief technology officer for SES, owner of the satellite going up on the first flight of a reused SpaceX booster.

After Monday's hotfire test at pad 39A, the rocket was lowered horizontally this morning for return to SpaceX's nearby hangar, where ground crews are expected to attach the 11,644-pound (5,281.7-kilogram) SES 10 spacecraft to the upper stage.

The rocket needs to return to the launch pad and be lifted vertical again overnight tomorrow to complete 13 hours of checkouts on the SES 10 satellite by engineers from Airbus Defense and Space, the craft's manufacturer, Halliwell said.

The checkouts must occur when the rocket is vertical at the launch pad, according to Halliwell, and involve testing and software uploads to the the SES 10 spacecraft.

Once the checkouts are complete, SpaceX needs a few more hours to start the countdown and fuel the rocket, with liftoff targeted for 6 p.m. EDT (2200 GMT) at the opening of a two-and-a-half hour window.

The duration of the launch window is restricted by the Federal Aviation Administration, which must clear air travel routes over Cape Canaveral for the rocket launch.

If the rocket and satellite are not ready in time for Thursday, there is a backup opportunity Friday, and the Air Force-run Eastern Range is believed to be clear for more launch attempts over the weekend.

The launch forecast shows a 70 percent chance of acceptable weather Thursday, but conditions worsen Friday evening, with a 40 percent chance of favorable weather then.

The weather forecast for tomorrow evening's launch window has improved, now predicting an 80 percent chance of acceptable conditions.

The launch window opens at 6:27 p.m. EDT (2227 GMT) and extends two-and-a-half hours. That enables SpaceX at least two opportunities to launch if a problem forces an abort late in the countdown, allowing sufficient time to recycle and reload super-chilled propellants, officials said.

The primary concerns Thursday will be the cumulus cloud and thick cloud weather rules, according to the official U.S. Air Force weather forecast released this morning.

The outlook calls for a few clouds at 3,000 feet and scattered clouds at 28,000 feet, southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph, and a temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit at launch time.

If the launch is delayed to Friday, the weather will worsen with showers, isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds in the forecast. The forecast for Friday predicts a 40 percent chance of good weather for a launch.

Launch preparations are still on track for liftoff Thursday after the Falcon 9 rocket returned to its hangar yesterday. The rocket has been mated with the SES 10 communications satellite with no issues, officials said.

Once the satellite and rocket completed a series of integrated tests today, the Falcon 9 will be rolled back out to pad 39A and lifted vertical some time this evening or overnight to kick off final testing and the software upload to the spacecraft.
