Iran plans to launch the Rasad 1 satellite into space at the end of August, Iran's telecommunications minister says.

"The Rasad 1 (Observation) satellite is scheduled to be launched into space on the back of a domestic carrier during Government Week (August 24-30)," the Mehr news agency quoted Reza Taqipour as saying on Wednesday.

"There are also plans on the agenda to launch other satellites, the details of which will be announced soon," he added.

Taqipour had earlier declared that the country planned to launch data and image transmission satellites by Iranian New Year (March 21, 2011).

"The satellites, which will be sent into space this [Iranian calendar] year, have telecommunications and filming applications," he added.

TEHRAN — Telecommunication Minister Reza Taghipour said on Wednesday that Iran is expected to launch a new satellite, Rasad 1, in the last week of August, the Mehr news agency reported.

"Rasad 1 (Observation) satellite is expected to be launched into space on the back of a domestic carrier during the period marking the government week (last week of August)," Taghipour said.

He said the launch would mark Iran's "newest achievement" in space technology.

The minister had previously said that during the current Iranian year to March 2011, new satellites capable of transmitting data and images would be launched.

In his Wednesday comments he did not say whether Rasad 1 was one of these satellites.

Iran in February revealed details of three new satellite prototypes -- the Toloo (Dawn), Navid (Good News) and Mesbah-2 (Lantern), the last said to be a telecommunications satellite.

In February 2009, Iran launched its first home-built satellite, the Omid (Hope), to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Издание приводит мнение израильских военных, согласно которым пуск состоится на последней неделе августа с территории секретного объекта Семнан к востоку от Тегерана.

Западные специалисты сейчас теряются в догадках, какой именно ракетоноситель будет использован иранской стороной: новейший "Симорг" или более старый "Сафир". "Симорг" является многоступенчатой 27-метровой ракетой, работающей на жидком топливе. Остается загадкой, смогли ли иранские инженеры завершить над ней работу.

Газета приводит мнение израильского специалиста Юзи Рубина, согласно которому "если будет запущен "Симорг", и он доставит на орбиту спутник весом более 100 килограмм, то Иран решит сразу две проблемы: успешно выведет в космос свой первый спутник-разведчик и покажет, что стал обладателем межконтинентальной баллистической ракеты".

The launch of a new Iranian satellite, which was to take place later this month, has been delayed as the device is still being developed, Telecommunications Minister Reza Taghipour said.

The minister had announced in July that the satellite, Rasad 1 (Observation), which would be Iran's second home-built satellite to be sent into space, would be launched in the last week of August.

But Taghipour was cited late Sunday by state television's website as saying that the satellite, to be used for transmitting images and weather forecasts, will now be launched in the second half of the current Iranian year to March 2011.

"The launch of Rasad 1 satellite will take place in the second half of this year," Taghipour said.

The second half of the Iranian year begins on September 23.

"The satellite... is itself being developed, although some other stages (involved in the launch) are ready," he added.

Taghipour did not specify when the launch would take place but said its timing would be decided "accurately once the pre-launch testing, which is a lengthy process, is done."

The minister had previously said that within the current Iranian year a number of new satellites capable of transmitting data and images would be launched by the Islamic republic.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran announced on Wednesday that it plans to launch another home-made satellite called Fajr (Dawn) into space by late March 2011.

Iran to display new satellites, rockets in early Feb.[/size]

TEHRAN, Jan. 30 (MNA) – Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi has said new range of rockets and satellites will be showcased during the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations which will start on February 1.

The Ten-Day Dawn celebrations are held across the country to commemorate the anniversary of the victory of Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Safir 1-B (Messenger 1-B) and Kavoshgar 4 (Explorer 4) rockets and Rasad (observation) and Fajr (Dawn) satellites will be unveiled during the 10-day celebrations, Vahidi stated on Sunday.

He went on to say the Safir 1-B rocket is capable of carrying a satellite weighing 50 kilos into an elliptical orbit of 300 to 450 kilometers.
