Kirasich: little changes between the launch abort system for AA-2 test and the one for the pad abort test. Made some minor changes after pad abort test, but this one is intended to be the production version.

Jenny Devolites, AA-2 test manager, says the boilerplate capsule (without parachutes) will hit the water at about 500 km/h; not expecting it to stay intact when it hits.

NASA Langley researchers are developing the next generation of space technology. In this episode, we explore Orion's Launch Abort System, or LAS, that's designed to keep astronauts safe during the launch of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. A key LAS researcher speaks fr om the control room of an active wind tunnel wh ere we're testing SLS.

NASA will put LAS under a full-stress test on July 2 called Ascent Abort Test 2 (AA-2) to qualify it for spaceflight.
