US EVA-61: Airlock repress began at 12:33 p.m., ending a 6-hour 2-minute spacewalk. This was the third of four planned EVAs to service the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, the 11th spacewalk so far this year and the 224th since station assembly and maintenance began in 1998.

Astronauts Wrap Up Third Spacewalk for Cosmic Particle Detector Repairs

Expedition 61 Commander Luca Parmitano of ESA (European Space Agency) and NASA Flight Engineer Andrew Morgan concluded their spacewalk at 12:33 p.m. EST. During the six hour and two minute spacewalk, the two astronauts successfully installed a new cooling system for the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS).

The crew completed the primary task to install the upgraded cooling system, called the upgraded tracker thermal pump system (UTTPS), completed the power and data cable connection for the system, and connected all eight cooling lines from the AMS to the new system. The intricate connection work required making a clean cut for each existing stainless steel tube connected to the AMS then connecting it to the new system through a process of metalworking known as swaging.

The astronauts also completed an additional task to install an insulating blanket on the nadir side of the AMS to replace the heat shield and blanket they removed during the first spacewalk to begin the repair work. The flight control team on Earth initiated power-up of the system and confirmed it is receiving power and data.

Parmitano has now conducted five spacewalks in his career for a total of 26 hours and 53 minutes, and Morgan has logged 39 hours and 32 minutes during six spacewalks since his arrival on the station in July. It was the 11thspacewalk at the station this year. Space station crew members have conducted a total of 224 spacewalks in support of assembly and maintenance of the orbiting laboratory. Spacewalkers have now spent a total of 58 days 15 hours and 43 minutes working outside the station.

ВАШИНГТОН, 2 дек – РИА Новости. Астронавты Лука Пармитано и Эндрю Морган, вышедшие в открытый космос, успешно завершили установку новой системы охлаждения магнитного альфа-спектрометра (AMS) на внешней поверхности Международной космической станции (МКС), сообщило НАСА.

Астронавт Европейского космического агентства командир экипажа МКС Лука Пармитано и астронавт НАСА Эндрю Морган в понедельник провели третий плановый выход в открытый космос для ремонта вышедшего из строя магнитного альфа-спектрометра.

"В течение шести часов и двух минут, которые продолжался выход в открытый космос, астронавты успешно установили новую систему охлаждения для магнитного альфа-спектрометра", - заявило НАСА после возвращения астронавтов на станцию.

Согласно планам американского космического ведомства, для проверки работы новой системы охлаждения состоится еще один выход в открытый космос. Как сообщает НАСА, астронавты проверят новую систему на наличие утечек, а также завершат работу по возобновлению его полного функционирования.

Для Луки Пармитано выход в открытый космос стал пятым в карьере, для Моргана - шестым.

Инструмент для изучения космических лучей AMS был доставлен на МКС в 2011 году. Изначально его срок службы был рассчитан на три года и не предполагал ремонта на МКС. После выхода из строя системы охлаждения AMS НАСА приняло решение о попытке его ремонта силами экипажа МКС, для этого на орбиту были доставлены более 20 уникальных инструментов.

Astronauts Andrew Morgan of NASA and Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency (ESA) will venture outside the International Space Station starting at ~6:50 a.m. EST to continue repairing the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) instrument. This is the third in a series of repair spacewalks - the most complex of this kind since the servicing of the Hubble Space Telescope. AMS is attached to the outside of the space station, where it has been operating since 2011. It is a particle physics experiment working to help us understand dark matter and the origins of the universe.

У меня сложилось впечатление, что на 6:37:20 и далее Пармитано "идёт" по станции на одних руках, не пользуясь страховочным фалом! Так?

Нет. Он всё время на "привязи" как минимум одним фалом. На кадрах всё время мелькает фал 2-7, который он гоняет как назойливую муху. Когда Джессика подвела манипулятор к месту высадки, Лука, прежде чем вынуть ноги из "стремян" APFR, перестыковал карабины страховочных фалов (как в предыдущих выходах). К сожалению, из-за переключения TDRS на другие задачи (  , но ВКД - не приоритетная задача для TDRS), большой кусок трансляции примерно с 6:00:00 - показ зала ЦУП-Х. Момент схода с APFR в живую не попал, плюс Лука всё время на серо-желтом фоне модулей станции - фалы практически сливаются с фоном
