Hans Koenigsmann, SpaceX: really amazing how the first stage stopped rotating during the landing burn. Flight computer was still running after water landing, went through normal post-landing saying. Preparing a tow to get it into harbor.

Koenigsmann: first stage targets a point in the water. Safety functions worked perfectly; public safety well protected here.

Траектория штатно упирается в океан, и лучше если одним кусочком падает.
Летать в космос необходимо. Жить - не необходимо.

Hans from SpaceX: "It's really amazing how it stops rolling at the end and deploys the legs and lands on the water... and still works.

Booster vented its tanks and is still floating and safe to approach. SpaceX preparing tow to get it into harbor and then recover it.

Despite 2-day slip to Dragon's arrival at Station, unberth and return date is the same right now on 13 January 2019. Might adjust later in mission, but no change right now.

Koenigsmann: don't think the landing mishap will affect next launch (first GPS 3 satellite) since no landing plans for that mission.

Hans cautions that they will need to look and really examine this booster to judge how its affected by the salt water before a decision is made on reflight.

Koenigsmann: this launch had upgraded COPVs in second stage; at least the second launch with those new pressure vessels (NASA requires at least 7 such flights before allowing crew on the vehicle.)

About 18 Falcon family missions are on the schedule (right now) for 2019. Hans reiterates that SpaceX is on track for the January #DM1 uncrewed flight test of Dragon and the April In-Flight Abort test.

An interesting comment about the COPVs on the Falcon 9. 2nd stage HAD the new COPVs needed for Crew flights. 1st did not. Hans says he thinks that counts toward NASA 7 flight need.

10 мин. назад

This is interesting BECAUSE we've always assumed that the 1st stage had to have the new COPVs for the 7 flight count to start. But that was a bad assumption. OH... and this was at least the 2ND new COPV flight. So we've got 2 flights counted now!

Hans admits that he's puzzled and how that Falcon 9 managed to kill its roll and stabilize itself nearly perfectly for landing. Needs to look at data.

Iridium-8 has slipped to 2019 according to Koenigsmann. He is also confident that they can fix the landing issue in time

DRAGON RESUPPLY MISSION (CRS-16)

On Wednesday, December 5, 2018, SpaceX launched its sixteenth Commercial Resupply Services mission (CRS-16) to the International Space Station. Liftoff occurred at 1:16 p.m. EST, or 18:16 UTC, from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.

Dragon is filled with more than 5,600 pounds of supplies and payloads, including critical materials to directly support more than 250 science and research investigations that will occur onboard the orbiting laboratory. Dragon separated from Falcon 9's second stage about 10 minutes after liftoff and will attach to the space station on Saturday, December 8.

The Dragon spacecraft for the CRS-16 mission previously supported the CRS-10 mission in February 2017. After stage separation, Falcon 9's first stage for this mission diverted to a soft landing in the ocean. SpaceX plans to retrieve the booster with the hopes of flying it again on an internal SpaceX mission.

SpaceX's coverage of Dragon's arrival and capture on Saturday, December 8 will be streamed live at spacex.com/webcast starting at about 2:00 a.m. PST, or 10:00 UTC, with capture targeted for about 3:00 a.m. PST, or 11:00 UTC.
