The "Go Searcher" vessel is in action for the first time today for a real spacecraft recovery, after multiple rehearsals at sea using mock-ups of the Crew Dragon. The ship has an aft lifting frame to hoist the capsule out of the water onto the deck, allowing crews to disembark the capsule on the boat.

Go Searcher also has a medical treatment facility and a helipad on-board, allowing astronauts to undergo health checks after their return from space, and an emergency evacuation to a hospital on shore, if required.

Interesting @NASAHistory fact for today's @SpaceX #CrewDragon return to Earth: It's been almost 50 years since we've landed a spacecraft that was designed for humans in the Atlantic Ocean. Last one was Apollo 9 on March 13, 1969.

Entry interface. Crew Dragon has encountered the outermost discernible layers of the atmosphere, flying northwest-to-southeast over the Southeast United States as it heads for splashdown in the Atlantic less than 15 minutes from now.

Crew Dragon's heat shield will protect the spacecraft from the high temperatures of re-entry. Altitude is currently about 46 kilometers, and a NASA research plane is tracking the capsule as it streaks toward the splashdown zone in the Atlantic Ocean.

SpaceX's recovery team is speeding toward the Crew Dragon. One team will head for the spacecraft, and the other will retrieve the four parachutes, which were designed to be jettisoned as soon as the capsule reached the water.
